Well I am back from my week long stay at GDA for my evaluation. I had tons of fun playing with my roommates and I also saw my sister Callie again who was also in for her evaluation. Jessica for the puppy department took me out for my evaluation and here's what report said.


Kennel Behavior: Good
Overall behavior: Good played well with roommate

Basic heath:
Overall appearance: good

Evaluation walk in unfamiliar area:
Response to people: Good controlled
Other dogs: excited but controllable
animals: Fine
loud sounds: seemed fine
Traffic: unphased
New handler: responded well
other: some Minor pulling while heeling at beginning of walk but settled quickly

OB Response:
Name: good
Sit: good
Down: good
Come: good
Stay: good

General handling:
Energy level: Moderate
response to correction: responded well did not need a lot of correcting behavior in establishments: good
over all stress: minor

Comments:
Dog responded well overall in new area with new handler. fairly easy to handle overall. dog was not bothered by anything of note. good response to OB commands. Continue to expose to new areas as she matures. continue to practice OB in new areas.

So I did really well!

Now Denise says that we need to get THE CALL to be Spayed not sure what that is but Denise says it is one step closer to being a Guide Dog.

Denise was so nerves this last week as I was to have my second evaluation. Denise dropped me off at GDA Monday morning telling me to do really well on Wed. when Jessica took my out for my eval. not to spook at the cars and to listen to Jessica. We went out early in the morning before the extreme heat of the day (110 degrees in Sylmar). I did very very well this time I did not drop when I saw the trucks or hide behind Jessica. My report says –

Walking in Unfamiliar area:
(People): good under control
(Other dogs) fine
(Animals – bird, squirrels, ect…) good
(Loud sounds): okay
(Traffic) seemed a bit uneasy but responded fairly well overall
(New handler): good
General Handling:
(Energy level): moderate
(Response to correction): required moderate corrections
(Behavior in establishments): good
(Overall stress): moderate
Comments:
Dog responded well overall in new area with new handler. Dog was well mannered in all areas and easy to handle overall. She was a bit uneasy on busy street but still responded well to commands when given.
Continue to expose dog to new areas as she matures to help build her confidence. Keep up the good work! Thanks :)

Not at this time

So I did not do to bad this time around I guess I am growing up. :)

I was at camp GDA for the last three days for my eight month evaluation; Denise keeps saying she can't believe that I am eight months old. On my report Laura says I have beautiful obedience manners and I have no problems staying in the kennel (the kennel techs. said that Chester and I were the first puppies they would see playing every morning when they came in "I really like to play with my roommates"). But I do have something I have to work on and it is traffic. I did not do well when we took a walk along a very busy street, when a BIG TRUCK came driving up from behind me I hit the deck, dropped into a down, fell on the floor “how ever you would like to say it”; then after Laura had gotten me up I when to hide behind her legs I really wanted off that street. I did finish the rest of the walk after I did so sits and downs for Laura but I had my ears pined to my head and panted till the end of the walk. When we got to the shopping center I calmed down and walked around the pet store like I was at the fabric store with Denise (Fabric stores are very boring but we seem to go to them a lot) so I got high praising remarks for that. I also had a little trouble with the van I really did not like the loud noisy van with the slippery crates.



Now Denise's & my job is to get me use to traffic in small positive doses. We shorted our walks from the three blocks on the busy Desoto Ave. & Topanga Cyn. to just one block on each and then walk the rest of our two mile walk on the calmer streets of Warner Center (Woodland Hills, CA). To help me with my van troubles Denise asks if I can sit in one of the GDA vans for a little while if they are not being used.
